Daljeet Kaur/Sangrur, April 21, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Jitendra Jorwal said that following the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the district administrative and police officials have started an initiative for complete eradication of drugs from Sangrur around two months ago which has now started pouring positive results.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Jitendra Jorwal was presiding over the district level meeting regarding the progress of drug de-addiction campaign in the presence of SSP Surendra Lamba here at the District Administrative Complex.
Deputy Commissioner informed that in the first week of February 2023, Sangrur administration has taken the initiative to treat and rehabilitate as many as 100 drug addicts from the district. He added that now, by providing proper treatment at the government drug addiction and rehabilitation center, Ghabadan, 10 addicts have brought to the mainstream of the society. He added that apart from the treatment, they have also been given skill development training and now they were managing their livelihood through self-employment.
Deputy Commissioner and SSP appealed to the people that if any person in any village or city has become victim of drug abuse, then his family or any other person should inform the police so that meaningful efforts can be made to bring them back on right path.
Deputy Commissioner said that at the Government run De-addiction and Rehabilitation Center Ghabadan, every facility was being provided free of cost which includes accommodation, food, exercise, yoga, sports, library, gym facilities. He added that vocational courses were also being provided with the support of RSETI to make them skilful.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner and SSP directed the officials that the students should be encouraged to be the part of awareness campaign against drugs and such programs should be designed in which students should be made aware to express their views against drugs through competitions.
SSP Surendra Lamba said that Anganwadi workers and Asha workers could also play an excellent role in the drug addiction campaign with their direct access to the homes. He said that if any resident shares information about a drug victim or drug traffickers, his name and address will be kept confidential.
During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on various issues including prevention of drug trafficking, performance of OOAT clinics, progress of investigation in cases with inter-state implications, increasing drug awareness activities in educational institutions and actions being taken under the NDPS Act.
On this occasion, SDM Lehra Suba Singh, SDM Dhuri Amit Gupta, SDM Dirba Rajesh Sharma, SDM Bhawanigarh Vineet Kumar, DSP Bharpur Singh, District Revenue Officer Harsimran Singh apart from officials from health, education, social justice, agriculture and other related departments were also present.
