Daljeet Kaur/Moonak/Sangrur, May 8, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, on Monday, personally visited sensitive areas on the banks of Ghaggar river today before the onset of rainy season. Deputy Commissioner said that if there were any shortcomings on the banks of Ghaggar river, then it was the right time to strengthen the banks because the water of the Ghaggar was flowing very low and there ample time in the starting of the rainy season.
Deputy Commissioner himself rode a motorcycle to closely inspect the flood control work carried out by MGNREGA workers along the Ghaggar river in the past months. He said that the administration was fully alert and fully prepared to deal with any threat of possible floods.
While visiting the sensitive places at Makraur Sahib, Mandvi, Phulad along with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varjeet Walia and SDM Moonak Suba Singh, DC Jitendra Jorwal said that there is no not any situation to panic because the district administration was fully alert following the guidelines of the Punjab government and strict instructions have been given to the officials of the drainage department that the cleaning work of all the drains and other branches in the district should be completed soon to avoid any damage during rainy season.
Talking to the people of the villages during his visit, the Deputy Commissioner said that last year the MGNREGA workers and the entire team had done a commendable job which strengthen the confidence of the people in the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann .
Deputy Commissioner said that the administration has also been setting up a district-level flood control room at Khanauri which will be in 24-hour contact with the state flood control room and will sound alert in any situation of the heavy rains in the hilly areas during the next months. DC Jorwal has also instructed all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates to keep monitoring the ongoing works of cleaning of Ghaggar river and other drains in their respective areas.
